How do Pro Sports Teams Travel? Bus? Plane?

Can you hold the 9:30 flight till whenever we get there? I have reservations for 79..name of Stienbrenner……..

Does one plane ‘belong’ to a team and it sits in the airport during a 3 game series?
Or does it drop the Sox in Seattle, take the Giants to New York, pick up KC and take them to LA and then get the Sox and take ‘em to Detroit?

they all fly, some teams own their planes, but the majority have a charter, usually a 727 with extra wide and long seats. the individual configuration of the pane is up to the team, but teams only get bussed to and from the airport

Most do fly, but I was watching a Braves telecast when they were playing the Nationals, and Chip Carey said that the Nationals were taking a bus after the game to Philadelphia. So I believe they bus it if isn’t worth it to fly.

Depends… I know the Yankees where playing in Washington so they flew then then took a train to Philly and a bus to Play the Mets @ Shea.
Arod has his own plane and flys everywhere, it seats i think 12, so he does share.

They fly most, if not all, the time. Some MLB teams actually own their own planes, but most contract a particular carrier for the season.

teams like the redsox and yankees and athletics and giants and dodgers can take a bus or fly, depending on how far they have to gothey do have team buses for these teams, like oakland and san fransisco, they are just across the bay from each otehr, so when interleague play rolls around, its a nice short trip, no plane needed
but the poor mariners have to fly everywhere, as the closest team is in california, and thats a very long drive from seattle

Teams might take buses on short trips… particularly teams in the north east, where the teams are much more concentrated, geographically.
Sometimes, you can go from one city to another by bus, AND check in to your hotel, in less time than it might take to get to the airport and actually take off. Then, of course, when you land at an airport, there’s the hassle of waiting for luggage and THEN you still have to transport the team to a hotel.
Taking a bus allows you to go directly to your hotel, as opposed to going to an airport first. Of course, many teams stay in hotels near the airport.
But teams will fly the vast, vast majority of the time.
